In Battlefield 6, DICE has returned to a classic class system, moving away from the over-specialized roles of previous entries. There are four distinct classes — Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon — each tailored to different team roles. Understanding their strengths is key to maximizing your squad’s effectiveness.
1. Assault Class – The Frontline Vanguard
- Role & Strengths: Assault players are designed to push objectives, secure perimeters, and engage aggressively in mid-to-close combat.
- Weapons & Gadgets: Typically armed with assault rifles and carbines. They carry medkits, breaching tools, and sometimes sprint or explosive gear.
- Playstyle Tips: Use Assault to lead charges. Focus on clearing enemy-held buildings and capturing objectives. Squad coordination is most effective when Assault players lead the way.
2. Engineer Class – Anti-Vehicle Specialist
- Role & Strengths: Engineers counter vehicles, repair vehicles, and deploy anti-armor defenses.
- Weapons & Gadgets: Rocket launchers, SMGs, LMGs, repair tools, deployable turrets, and mines.
- Playstyle Tips: Prioritize taking out tanks, helicopters, and transport vehicles. Use repair abilities to keep allied vehicles in the fight.
3. Support Class – Sustainer & Suppression Expert
- Role & Strengths: Support keeps the squad going, providing ammo, suppression, and defensive fire.
- Weapons & Gadgets: LMGs, hybrid rifles, ammo crates, deployable cover, smoke, suppression devices.
- Playstyle Tips: Stay with your squad. Drop ammo crates at choke points, lay down suppressive fire during pushes, and use cover to protect reviving or low-HP teammates.
4. Recon Class – Sniper & Intelligence Operative
- Role & Strengths: Recon is all about gathering intel, holding long lines of sight, and eliminating high-value targets.
- Weapons & Gadgets: Sniper rifles, drones, motion sensors, laser designators.
- Playstyle Tips: Hold high ground, spot enemy movements, and pick off targets from distance. Use your intel tools to guide the squad’s push or retreat.
5. Why This Class System Works in Battlefield 6
- Team Synergy: These clearly defined roles encourage teamwork. A squad with a balance of classes (Assault + Engineer + Support + Recon) performs much better than a homogeneous squad.
- Tactical Depth: With each class having distinct gadgets and abilities, matches feel more tactical and less chaotic.
- Customization: Within each class, there’s freedom to specialize your loadout — custom guns, attachments, gadgets — to complement your preferred playstyle.
- Replayability: Switching between classes alters how you experience the game, making BF6 more replayable and rewarding.
6. Class Challenges & Progression
Like many modern Battlefield titles, class challenges grant rewards when you level up within a specific class. Completing these challenges helps you unlock new gadgets, field specs, and other rewards — incentivizing players to try all four classes. This system encourages a more holistic approach to gameplay, rather than tunnel-visioning a single role.
